This research looks at how citizens develop pollution related grievances, how they decide to make a complaint to the environmental authorities (Environmental Protection Bureaus), how the authorities decide to respond to such a complaint, and how satisfied citizens are with such a response. Data in this project will be collected during a year long fieldwork study through participant observation and interviews with pollution victims and environmental authorities in a major municipality in South-East China.
This is a PhD research project conducted by Mr. Cheng Xiang. The project is funded by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and falls under NCLC Lines of Research no. 1, 3 and 5.
